One of the more practical MIDI modules of the 1990s, the Micro Piano was built around a simple idea: a compact box dedicated to piano and keyboard sounds rather than a huge collection of mediocre presets. The acoustic pianos remain the highlight, with a clear, present character that helped make the unit a popular choice for live rigs and MIDI-based studios. The electric pianos, organs and layered piano/string sounds are equally useful, avoiding the thin, budget-module sound common to many units of the era.
Its half-rack format and straightforward operation made it an easy addition to any setup, whether paired with a master keyboard on stage or used as a dedicated sound source in the studio. Decades later it remains a favourite for players after classic Kurzweil piano sounds without the size or complexity of a workstation.
