No armadillos were harmed in the making of this Charango! Because they are from the Andes mountains where there are few trees, the body was traditionally made from an armadillo shell. This one has a hand-carved wooden back. Set up like a modern Charango with ten nylon strings.
Made by hand in La Paz Bolivia in a small workshop. This one is pretty traditional with dashed marquetry binding and hand-cut marquetry on the headstock and rosette. True hand carving! Pointy classical-style headstock. It has a new set of nylon charango strings tuned traditionally G-C-E-A-E. 10 strings in 5 courses, 11.5" scale with a flat fingerboard. It has a great sound, but I'm not a charango player.
Near mint condition. No issues. Comes with new gig bag.
The Charango is a small Andean stringed instrument of the lute family, from the Quechua and Aymara populations in the territory of the Altiplano in post-Colonial times, after European stringed instruments were introduced by the Spanish during colonialization. (Wikipedia)
