Up for sale is an exceptionally cool and hard-to-find 2022 Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab ’61 Les Paul SG Standard Reissue in Double Gold, featuring Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aging.
This one is particularly special to me and has been one of my favorite guitars. It’s actually the guitar pictured in my profile photo.
The Double Gold finish is what really sets this SG apart. It’s a striking and unusual finish for a ’61-style SG, and the gold highlights the contours and deep bevels of the classic early SG body beautifully. Combined with the aged nickel hardware and subtle Murphy Lab finish checking, it has a look unlike the typical Cherry ’61 Reissue.
The Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged treatment is intentionally subtle. Rather than looking heavily relic’d, the finish has fine checking and the hardware has been gently aged to give the guitar the character of a well-preserved vintage instrument.
Construction & Feel
The guitar features a lightweight solid mahogany body with a solid mahogany neck and Indian rosewood fingerboard. The early-’60s SG design provides excellent upper-fret access and the slim neck makes this an exceptionally comfortable guitar to play.
Gibson’s Custom Shop construction and historic specifications include a nylon reissue nut, aged cellulose nitrate trapezoid inlays, ABR-1 bridge, Historic Reissue stopbar tailpiece and Kluson Deluxe tuners.
Electronics
A pair of aged Custombucker Alnico III humbuckers provides the classic low-output PAF-style voice these Custom Shop reissues are known for.
They have plenty of clarity and definition when played clean, while opening up beautifully through an overdriven amp. The bridge pickup has the bite and aggression you’d expect from a great SG, while the neck pickup remains warm and articulate.

The guitar is in Very Good condition.
Because this is a Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged instrument, the finish checking and aged hardware are intentional parts of the factory aging treatment. Please look through all of the photos for a detailed representation of the guitar’s current condition.
This is a fantastic opportunity to pick up a very unusual Double Gold Murphy Lab ’61 SG that stands apart from the far more commonly encountered finishes.
It has all of the vintage-inspired construction and feel you’d expect from a Gibson Custom Shop Historic Reissue, but the Double Gold finish gives this particular example a personality all its own.
The Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case is included.
The guitar will be carefully packed for shipment.
Please feel free to message me with any questions or requests for additional photos.
