This Holton Special is over 100 years old and manufactured in Chicago before the Holton operation moved to Wisconsin in 1918. It has original silver plate that has some minor wear and burnished gold engravings and a gold wash in the bell. The gold is more striking against the tarnished silver in the before pictures but it is indeed still there. A fair amount of time went towards removing some tarnish and fixing the slide. I have included pictures to show what it was like before, but a fair amount of time was spent improving movement of the slide, which currently works fairly well with Yamaha slide lubricant but originally hardly moved at all. The slide moves freely unless you over extend the slide onto the stockings which are solid nickel silver unlike modern trombones that have chrome stockings. There is some minor dents on the bell which are in the picture but I didnt want to damage the original silver plating and gold burnishing and engraving by removing them.
