Here's a very nice Gibson GA-30 amp from 1957. Classic tube design with unique 8 + 12 inch speaker configuration. It gives you the big sound of multiple speakers in a smaller and lighter package.

The GA-30 went through a few different iterations in the 50's, from medium brown to two tone with "poodle" bottom, to this model with two tone and a tween bottom, then to "all tweed" circa 1959-60. Models after that added reverb and/or tremolo effects. I think this version is the coolest looking, and you get more of a straight ahead tone without all of the effects.

The "tone expander" selector is basically a bright switch that also boosts the low-mids. The instrument channel uses the tone control. The mic channel is big, fairly clean, and tubey. The instrument channel has more gain and gets you more into the tweed Bandmaster/Bassman territory. It is a great sounding amp.

A small speaker breakout box has been added in the bottom of the amp. When you plug a speaker cab into this, it disconnects the amp's internal speakers and uses only the outboard cabinet. A very cool option for trying different cables with this great amp in a no-hassle way.

As far as mods, there have been some cap changes as shown in the pics. A grounded 3 prong power cable has been added. The "death cap" has been removed but is included as shown. The speaker wires have been replaced. The 8 inch Jensen has been reconed recently by Weber. The 12 inch speaker may be an older recone. The logo is a reproduction. The back panel mounting screws have been replaced.
