Up for sale is genuine/ original Epiphone Electar “Century” model lap steel, that based on the 6000 series serial number stamped on the back of the headstock, dates from 1939 to 1940 and made in the USA (Not an imported reproduction model).
Below is some information from the Epiphone database:
Body:
- Maple body
- Electar Hawaiian Teardrop shaped body (1939-1949)
Neck:
- Metal fingerboard
- Bowtie fret markers
- Metal "Bikini" Epiphone logo plate on headstock
- 22.375" scale
And a wide 2.375" nut width (6-string) for easy fingering.
Other features/improvements include a new, full set of matching Stew Mac tuners, a new Bill Lawrence LS 250 HumBucker blade pickup, and new wiring and matching capacitor for clear sound and tone definition. This guitar is perfect for Blues, Rock, Hawaiian, Country, and Western Swing.
It still also has the original 1939 Epiphone Metal logo plate on headstock which are often missing from vintage guitars.
The back pads were newly re-covered in black felt.
It has a new set of 16- 56 John Pearse strings installed and is tuned for open D.
There are some light remnants of numeral markings that appear on the upper frets, difficult to capture ( see photos) but not uncommon on old lap steels.
This guitar is solid and has a full approximately, 9 inch wide body at the lower bout width (see photo) vs. about seven 1/4 inches on the reproduction.
I have been playing and selling lap steels for many years, and this guitar sounds great, and has great sustain. Check my lap steel sale feedback.
It ships with a new GigBag as pictured.
Continental USA sale only and ships UPS
