Old school Barcus-Berry product for sale.
Not sure what these were actually used for. From what little I could gather online this may have been a way to tailor your impedance when older type acoustic pickups needed it. Internal trim-pots let you dial in bass/treble/sensitivity.
This is not a boost! If anything it pads your output. Full gain on this is a touch lower than your regular signal. An interesting piece of history for sure but not an incredibly exciting sound. Certainly a cool point-to-point circuit with the original schematic inside!
Runs only with 9v battery (photographed but not included). Screw holes are not drilled all the way through the enclosure so the housing slides right off.
