Gibson Custom Shop Historic Collection '59 Les Paul Plaintop Reissue 1994 - 2000 - Heritage Tobacco Sunburst

This is a 1997 custom shop 59 Less Paul. That’s the reason there is a 7 beginning the serial number On this guitar. The custom shop had not moved to leading with the reissue year like they did later on. I got this Guitar years ago off of craigslist. The owner was primarily a bass player that played guitar sometimes and had owned it since the early 2000s. Second Owner he told me. And he said he primarily put the dings in the neck that I took pictures of, and around the butt of the body. Mainly the back I don’t really see anything on the binding on top.

It has 57 classic pick ups with custom shop stickers. I’ve never seen that before. And Grover tuners. It’s a lot of fun to play.

As far as the Appointments, the abalone is absolutely beautiful. I’ve had a few custom shop Les Paul’s and these might be the best trapezoids I’ve ever seen. The neck profile is perfect. It’s a hey 59 so what could you ask for? I called Gibson to figure out what it was when I got it and they said it was definitely a 1997 custom shop with a 59 neck. And that was why the serial number began with seven.

It has been a pleasure to own. I never got to play it live. But I definitely logged some hours in the garage with it. The thing roars. I played some 57’s years ago in a cheaper Gibson and didn’t love them. But I had no idea 57 classics out of the custom shop could be so good. maybe that’s why they have the custom shop stickers on top of the bobbins.

It came with a Gibson historic division case as it should, but had no COA or any other paperwork. When I called Gibson, they said they will not re-issue COA’s. And the medallion on the back I put on. I spent like 50 bucks to get a silver Gibson custom shop medallion because my other one had one And I liked it lol. I think the original one is in the case.

Outside of that, this thing is killer and somebody will love a Main Guitar live or just playing it in the studio. It has been a killer less Paul to own. And I’ve never seen a burst exactly like this one. It is a very different burst. Very cool fade away if you look close at the pictures. But I gotta say it looks way better in person than it did in ANY of those pictures. It’s like a bit 3 dimensional if you’re looking at it in the light.

I think it weighs around 9 and early change lbs.
