BLUE RIDGE VACUUM TUBE WORKS CUSTOM 5E3 DELUXE Mid 20'S - Laquered Tweed

It's a classic for a reason.  Every serious guitar and amp person should own one. Or two.

I put this amp together a couple-three years ago. It's meticulously hand-wired and with great care.

I made a few modifications from the original circuit. Nothing drastic (it's still 'classic' tweed Deluxe), just "tightened up" some:

*Increased capacitance in the first power supply filtering stage helps form the low end a bit better. Helps keeping circuit noise to a minimum as well.

*A resistance mod in the second preamp stage that minimizes blocking distortion. The 5E3 is known for its natural overdrive capability. This makes sure the desirable distortion is indeed all desirable. 

Tubes are new production throughout (save the rectifier). I've stayed with a 12AY7 (Electro Harmonix) in position 1. I think it's best for the classic 5E3 tone. There's not a ton of headroom inherent to this design, so the lower gain 12AY7 keeps things from getting too gnarly and compressed early on volume-wise. Position 2 is a new JJ ECC83S. Power tubes are matched EH 6V6's. The rectifier is a NOS Tung Sol 5Y3. I've had mixed experience in my service/repair and build work with current rectifiers. So it's old school here. Power tube swaps are easy, since it's a cathode-biased circuit. Plug and play. It's self-biasing.

The speaker is a new production Jensen P12Q. I think it's perfect for that classic, touch-sensitive, woody tone.

Used only here in the studio. Comes with an embroidered Victoria-style canvas slip cover.  The cabinet is lacquered beautifully. I've given it some RF shielding, too.

I'll leave a link to a video I produced putting the amp through a few volume/tone scenarios. I may be biased (pardon the pun), but this thing sounds awesome.
