Since its introduction in 1982, the American Vintage '52 Reissue Telecaster has been one of Fender’s longest-running models ever. With its roots in the Blackguard Telecaster designed by Leo Fender in the early 1950s, it exudes the unmistakable vintage vibe of THE classic Tele par excellence, and as a revised reissue from 1998, the model featured here faithfully reproduces all the specifications that elevated the guitar to legendary status.

This 1998 Fender AVRI ’52 Telecaster features a solid ash body, which—thanks to the thin nitrocellulose finish in Butterscotch Blonde—provides excellent natural resonance even when played acoustically. The maple neck, featuring a medium-width “C”-shaped profile, is attached to the body via a tried-and-true bolt-on construction and features a maple fingerboard with a period-correct 7.25″ fingerboard radius and vintage frets, which together provide exceptionally comfortable playability. And even when it comes to small details, such as the slotted screws characteristic of that era, the design stays true to the old originals!

The two American Vintage Tele singlecoil pickups are, of course, designed with a vintage orientation in mind; they sound balanced and deliver plenty of bass, mids, and warmth. With a little distortion, the guitar immediately lets loose with its unmistakable sound and delivers the sought-after twang that has enchanted generations of guitarists for over half a century.
