1968 Ludwig Red / Silver Sparkle Tri-Band Drum Set w/ Matching Canister Throne 22/13/13/16

This is definitely one that you don't see every day, a vintage Ludwig red / silver sparkle tri-band drum set with matching canister throne from 1968. It's in great players condition with a few light scuffs on the wrap that can only be seen up close. The hoops show some pitting and light rust. There are also some tooling marks on the outer edge of the bottoms of the two high toms that are cosmetic and won't effect tuning, shown in pics. The toms are missing the tone controls. Small hole in front bass drum hoop from bass drum anchor being tightened on it.

One oddity is that the floor tom is mahogany. I was told by someone at Ludwig that there were some older shells that were used up at various times in the 1960s, which is obvious here after they switched to clear interiors.

Aside from the bass drum batter head, I've put all new heads on the drums as of the day of listing it. Coated Ambassadors on top and clear Ambassadors on the bottom of the toms, coated Ambassador on the front of the bass drum.

Sizes are 14x22 / 9x13 / 9x13 / 16x16. I'm assuming that the dual 13 setup was ordered so the high toms would have a visual symmetry. You can tune one higher or remove one and play it as a 22/13/16.

The canister throne appears to have a changed latch and some splits in the top. I removed tape that was covering the splits on the throne top and cleaned off the adhesive. The canister throne comes with the original zipper bag.

This set came from the original owner's son. His dad passed away in 1969 a year after buying it and his son learned to play drums after his passing.
