1989 Stelling Staghorn 5 String Banjo

Serial Number 3xx8 (can provide picture upon request)

Purchased new in 1989 by my father for his personal use. Minor nicks and scratches, nor real buckle rash. Minor crazing on the back of the walnut. Some minor pitting in the chrome as well as some discoloration in some areas. Small ding in the headstock by the top right tuner visible in some of the close up photos, can provide more on request. Original Stelling hard shell case with some nicks and scratches as well as some wear and residual glue (I think it’s glue) on the inside of the case in the headstock area. None of which has affected the banjo itself.

Light fret wear, no cracks or structural damage, never been refinished.

I remember when my father ordered this and he called the phone number for Stelling to check on the progress and the phone rang and rang until finally someone answered and it was Geoff Stelling himself! My dad got a kick out of that.

This is a very nice playing and loud banjo with good action and tuners in good working order looking for a good new home. I’m a guitar player and have never been able to figure the banjo out so I’m listing it for sale in hopes someone out there will love it and play it like my father did.

I have the original sales receipt for the trade in and purchase of this beautiful instrument.

Edit: The truss rod cover shown on the headstock in some photos was a custom piece with my father’s initials on it. I’ve replaced it with what I assume was the original black cover that was in the case.
