This is a vintage 1978 Gibson RD with its original hardshell case and the original warranty card. The serial number 72268108 breaks down precisely via Gibson's official YDDDYRRR dating system to indicate that this guitar was manufactured on August 14th, 1978, at the historic factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and was the 108th instrument stamped that day. I am the second owner of this guitar and I’ve owned it since 1980. The Bob Moog designed board for expansion, compression and boost is fully functional. There have been no modifications to this guitar. It was recently set up and plays beautifully. The RD Artist series came with gold plated hardware throughout. The headstock shows the original serial number and the RD logo. All the inlays on the ebony neck and maple headstock are original, genuine mother of pearl. This guitar has been extremely well cared for and is in excellent condition. There are very few scratches, mainly showing on the back where there is some buckle rash, not surprising for a 48 year old vintage guitar. The original hard shell case is in nearly perfect condition with a few marks and scratches. One of the latches is slightly skewed but works perfectly. A little trivia about this type of guitar is that Jimmy Page played a 1979 Gibson RD Artist at Nebworth House where he performed Misty Mountain hop on August 4th and 11th, 1979. His was plain natural finish which to me is less appealing than this beautiful sunburst. This guitar does require a 9 volt battery housed in the back beneath the smaller secondary plate. It opens by removing two small screws.
