2015 Fender/Squier Mikey Way Signature Mustang Bass
Serial number confirms 2015 production/build.
Large Flake Silver Sparkle finish with black racing stripe. Offset double-cutaway Mustang Bass-style basswood body, bolt-on C-shaped maple neck, 19-fret rosewood fingerboard with parchment dot inlays, standard headstock with black overlay, four-on-one-side tuners, four-saddle through-body bridge, three-ply black pickguard, single covered passive humbucker pickup, master volume and tone controls mounted on a chrome plate, chrome hardware, and 30" short scale.
Since acquiring the bass, I installed a fresh set of La Bella 760FGS-MUS Stang Gold Flats. In my opinion, these are the nicest-sounding La Bella flats I have ever put on a Mustang-style bass, and they cost nearly $50 by themselves. I also had professional fretwork performed, including attention to the lower positions and a complete fret-end dressing from top to bottom. Any fret sprout is gone. The fretwork on this bass is exceptional and it absolutely flies.
Most of the photos were taken when I first received the bass. Be sure to check out the final photos to see how great the Gold Flats look on this instrument. They really complement the silver sparkle finish.
Also included is a Fender gig bag/soft case.
One of the things that makes this bass stand out is the pickup. Unlike a traditional Mustang pickup, this single humbucker sounds much closer to a P-Bass. It has a rounder, fatter, fuller voice and lacks much of the pluck and thump typically associated with standard Mustang pickups.
So, after putting more than $200 into this bass, why am I selling it?
Simple. It is just a little too small for me. The nut width is just under 1.5 inches, with its very slender neck profile, and while I am not a particularly large guy, this neck is a bit narrower than I prefer. That is really the only reason it is leaving.
And honestly, just look at it.
This bass is more than 10 years old and is about as clean as you could reasonably hope to find. The only notable wear is on the pickguard, which has done exactly what it was designed to do: protect the bass. There are some pick marks, but they are difficult to see unless the guard is held at the right angle under direct light. I have tried to capture them in the photos as accurately as possible.
Other than that, it is essentially a time capsule.
Everything functions perfectly. Truss rod, electronics, pots, knobs, tuners, and hardware all work exactly as they should. The neck is straight, the fretboard is clean, and the instrument is ready to play immediately.
If you have been looking for a Mikey Way Mustang, this is an unusually clean example with a professional fret dressing, premium strings already installed, and no surprises.
