Who Is This Guitar For?

If you've ever picked up a guitar and found yourself playing for an hour when you intended to play for ten minutes, this might be your guitar.

This Gretsch G9520E Gin Rickey is one of those rare instruments that immediately makes you want to keep playing. It's lightweight, comfortable, incredibly easy to hold, and has a personality all its own.

And honestly? The biggest surprise for me was the pickup.

Most acoustic-electric guitars use piezo systems that attempt to reproduce an acoustic guitar through an amplifier. The Gin Rickey takes a completely different approach with its Deltoluxe magnetic soundhole pickup, and the result is warm, rich, bluesy, and incredibly musical.

Plugged into my Fender Acoustic 100, it delivers a smoky, vintage-inspired tone that reminds me more of an old blues club than a modern acoustic stage guitar.

Why This One Is Different

The magnetic pickup is what separates this guitar from most acoustic-electrics.

Instead of the bright, sometimes quacky character often associated with piezo pickups, the Gin Rickey produces a warmer, smoother, more intimate sound. Chords bloom beautifully, single notes have wonderful clarity, and jazz, blues, folk, and fingerstyle all seem right at home.

It's the kind of guitar that makes you sit down intending to practice and end up simply enjoying yourself.

Playability

One of the easiest-playing small-body guitars I've had through the shop.

The compact size makes it comfortable whether you're relaxing on the couch, sitting around a campfire, recording, or simply enjoying a quiet evening at home.

The neck feels inviting, the body practically disappears in your lap, and the entire guitar encourages you to keep playing.

I suspect many players will find themselves reaching for this guitar before some of their larger and more expensive instruments.
