Up for sale is a vintage Ventura 5-string resonator banjo, made in Japan during the late 1960s to mid-1970s.

This banjo features beautiful decorative appointments throughout, including pearl headstock inlays on both the front and back, engraved armrest and tailpiece, a multi-ply resonator with decorative center marquetry, and ornate fretboard inlays. The finish has aged nicely and gives the instrument a classic vintage appearance.

Features include:

  • 5-string resonator banjo
  • Ventura logo headstock
  • Made in Japan (MIJ)
  • Pearl headstock and fretboard inlays
  • Decorative resonator marquetry
  • Engraved armrest
  • Engraved butterfly tailpiece
  • Geared fifth-string tuner
  • Hard shell case included
  • Leather strap included

Condition

The banjo is in very good vintage condition with normal cosmetic wear consistent with age. The metal hardware shows light oxidation and patina, and there are minor marks and scratches throughout.

A service receipt from Cedar Mountain Banjos dated 2007 is included. The receipt documents repair work to the fifth-string tuner area, including plugging and re-drilling the tuner hole and reinstalling the tuner. The instrument has remained structurally sound since that repair.

The neck appears straight, the banjo presents beautifully, and it has the bright, punchy sound that made these Japanese-made vintage banjos popular with folk and bluegrass players alike.

Includes the original hard shell case and leather strap pictured.
