Drake Custom Short Scale 4 Bass Guitar, Natural Oil

NECK

The neck is made from a quartersawn piece of Wenge with tight very straight grain. A dual action truss rod and full length carbon fiber stabilization, allows for optimal relief adjustment to suit your technique. A Pau Ferro fret board boasts Ebony wood binding, 22 stainless steel frets, and is adorned with simulated MOP oval position markers. Luminlay blue glow in the dark side dots, help when the stage has little or no lighting. Peghead matches the body woods both front and back.

BODY

The body is crafted out of two grain matched pieces of Mahogany, topped with some very old Maple Burl that was milled in the late 70's. Separating the top from back woods, is a thin slice of black dyed Poplar veneer to form the accent line. The finish on the body, as well as the neck, is hard wax oil, which is very durable and easy to repair if ever needed.

HARDWARE

I use Hipshot hardware on most of my work, and here, I used the Hipshot A style bridge made of Aluminum, as the bass has lots of sustain and I wanted to keep things as light as I can. I believe that the Aluminum tray allows the bass to stand out in the mix better. Dunlop supplied the strap buttons, which are the dual use version. Strap mounting gear is included in the accessory pack.

ELECTRONICS

On this bass I used my favorite combination of Aguilar Super Double pickups, and the Darkglass Tone Capsule preamp. This preamp has 3 bands (Bass, Low Mid, Hi Mid) that bring out many tones without the treble hiss I found with other preamps. The bass is rather quiet noise-wise. The controls are Master volume, blend, Bass, Low Mid, and Hi Mid.

WEIGHTS AND MEASURES

This bass has a brass nut that is 1.5" wide, the spacing at the bridge is 19mm. This bass weigh in at 8 pounds. The neck is a shallow C shape and feel fast. The bass fits into a guitar size case (40.75" long from peghead to tip of strap button) and a Mono brand Vertigo case is included in the price.
