Comprehensive Restoration

This vintage high-fidelity receiver has undergone a complete electrical and mechanical restoration intended to provide decades of reliable service. Every life-limited component has been replaced with modern, high-tolerance equivalents selected for reliability, stability, and long-term performance.

Beyond a conventional recap, the circuitry has been upgraded with matched semiconductors, flameproof safety resistors, modern protection components, and precision calibration hardware. The result is a receiver that exceeds original 1970s component tolerances while preserving the classic Sansui sound signature.

Electrical Overhaul

188 New Electronic Components Installed

85 Premium Nichicon, Panasonic, and WIMA Capacitors

2 Upgraded Main Power Supply Filter Capacitors

Additional Reliability Upgrades

All known noisy and failure-prone transistors replaced.

Differential transistor pairs hand matched for gain (hFE).

All fusible and N.I.R. resistors upgraded to flameproof metal film types.

Corrosive factory adhesive completely removed.

Damaged traces professionally repaired where required.

High-stress solder joints reflowed using 63/37 tin-lead solder.

All grounding points inspected and re-soldered.

Signal meters verified for proper tracking and operation.

Calibration & Laboratory Verification

Following restoration, the receiver underwent full calibration and verification testing using laboratory-grade instrumentation.

DC offset reduced to near theoretical minimum (1 mV) through matched differential pairs.

Bias current calibrated precisely to factory specification (4.5 mV).

Oscilloscope verification at both 1kHz and 10kHz.

Sine-wave and square-wave stability confirmed.

Full-power clipping symmetry verified.

Parasitic oscillation testing completed under heavy equalization and high-volume conditions.

Amplifier linearity verified with tone controls defeated.

Minimum 8-hour thermal burn-in completed using an 8-ohm dummy load at 50% rated power.

Receiver tested to meet and exceed the original 45 watt-per-channel factory specification (50 watts).

Mechanical & Cosmetic Restoration

All switches and controls deep cleaned with DeoxIT D5, F5, and FaderLube F100L.

Signal path restored to exceptionally low-noise operation.

Custom right-side dial lamp assembly installed for symmetrical dial illumination.

Complete warm-white LED lighting conversion.

Three new LED lamps installed.

Faceplate removed and meticulously cleaned and polished.

All knobs cleaned and restored to original luster.

Factory vinyl veneer cabinet cleaned and polished.

Tuner pulley system lubricated for smooth operation.

Lower chassis cleaned and detailed.

Key adjustment points secured with tamper-evident lacquer seals.

Exclusive Dial Illumination Upgrade

The original Sansui G-5000 was equipped with a dial lamp only on the left side of the tuning scale, resulting in uneven illumination across the dial face.

This receiver has been upgraded with a custom matching lamp assembly on the right side of the dial, creating symmetrical illumination similar to the larger G-6000 and G-7000 models.

Combined with the warm-white LED conversion, the result is an evenly illuminated dial that preserves the original vintage appearance while providing superior visibility and reliability.

Warranty & Provenance

Included with this receiver is the original "Bag of Bones" containing the removed factory components (excluding output transistors and lamp replacements), providing physical evidence of the restoration work performed.

A signed Certificate of Restoration accompanies the receiver and serves as permanent documentation of the work completed.

This receiver carries a 30-Day Limited Warranty covering restoration-related workmanship. Warranty coverage becomes void if tamper-evident seals are disturbed or if unauthorized internal service is performed. Please contact me with any warranty issues and we can work through them prior to submitting a return request.

This receiver will be thoroughly double-boxed for maximum shipping protection. I'm a giant advocate of secure packaging and shipping. We've all had nightmares!

This nearly 50-year old receiver is far from perfect cosmetically. There are faceplate and case marks. They are hard to see and are just common wear. Please see the pictures.

Complete restoration documentation is retained by the restorer.
