2020 Taylor Builder’s Edition 912ce – Wild Honey Burst

BACKGROUND

Offered here is a Taylor Builder’s Edition 912ce in Wild Honey Burst, Taylor’s premium Grand Concert cutaway from the 900 Series Builder’s Edition line.

Designed under Andy Powers, the Builder’s Edition series takes Taylor’s already-refined platform and adds the player-comfort details that make these guitars feel unusually dialed-in: beveled armrest, beveled cutaway, rolled fretboard edges, chamfered body edges, Silent Satin finish, and a compact Grand Concert body that sits easily in the lap.

This model pairs a Lutz spruce top with Indian rosewood back and sides, V-Class bracing, ES2 electronics, and high-end 900 Series appointments including paua edge trim, Belle Fleur inlays, and Gotoh 510 tuners.

TONE

This 912ce has the articulate, hi-fi Taylor voice, but with more warmth and bloom than the stereotype suggests.

The Lutz spruce top gives it excellent responsiveness and headroom: quick under the fingers, clear under a light touch, and still composed when pushed. The Indian rosewood adds overtone content, low-end depth, and a glassy top end without getting muddy.

The Grand Concert body keeps everything focused and balanced. It is especially strong for fingerstyle, light flatpicking, altered tunings, and vocal accompaniment. Notes separate cleanly, chords stay defined, and the V-Class bracing gives the guitar impressive sustain and intonation up the neck.

CONDITION

This guitar is in excellent overall condition and presents beautifully.

There is light cosmetic wear consistent with careful use. No major structural issues are noted. The guitar plays well, the neck feels comfortable, and the ES2 electronics are functioning as intended. Fret wear is minimal.

Includes the original Taylor hardshell case with burgundy interior.

CONCLUSION

The Builder’s Edition 912ce Wild Honey Burst is one of Taylor’s most elegant modern instruments: compact, comfortable, highly responsive, and beautifully appointed without feeling gaudy.
