Exceptional early Jonathan Wilson build from his NYC period, long before his work became as widely recognized as it is today. This ’54-style S Type is a standout example, with the kind of aging, feel, and detail that helped establish his reputation among serious vintage-style guitar players.
Visually, it has a strong “Brownie” character, calling to mind Clapton’s Strat from the Layla era, while still having its own identity. The guitar is in very good condition overall, plays beautifully, and has a lively, resonant tone. Frets show only light wear.
It currently has a 5-way switch installed for more practical pickup selection, replacing the original period-correct 3-way switch. The bridge pickup has also been swapped for a vintage Van Zandt. The original switch and bridge pickup are both included.
Comes with the original case and case candy, along with a vintage-style strap, bridge cover, tremolo arm, and spring cover.
These early Wilson examples do not surface often, and this one is especially clean, complete, and usable. Weight is 7.0 lbs on my digital scale. The neck has a very comfortable rounded C profile.
