Doc Sweeney Pure Oak Steam Bent Snare Drum - 14x8

Drum is virtually brand new/near mint. It was tuned up, tapped on a couple times, and stored in a closet since I purchased it. I am the original owner, and it was custom made for me to my specs.

The shell and re-rings are both 5/16" thick which results in the drum being .625" or nearly 16mm at the edges. It has double 45 degree bearing edges, 8 proprietary single point lugs, proprietary Doc Sweeney DS1 multi position throw off and butt plate, Puresound Custom Pro 24 strand steel wires, Evans Heads, and S-Hoops. The finish is a reddish-orange dye, similar to a cherry sunburst, with a hand-rubbed oil finish applied over it.

Doc Sweeney Pure steam bent drums are different from your run of the mill steam bent drums. The "Pure" design uses advanced milling to carve the reinforcement rings directly into the shell (rather than gluing them in) much like a cast metal shell. This minimizes glue usage for maximum resonance.

If you're unfamiliar with Doc Sweeney drums, then let me tell you that they're a force to be reckoned with. With so many boutique builders out there you're probably jaded and skeptical about the idea of another boutique drum company but, Steven, the main man at Doc Sweeney, is a seasoned craftsman and knows what he's doing when it comes to building drums. They specialize in steambent and stave drums, each of which I happen to own, and I can attest to the stellar build quality of their drums; they even have proprietary hardware. You can't get a higher quality instrument for the price; the bang you get for your buck is absurd with this company.
