Read the original description from Dazatronyx below:
The THD is an '80s fuzz distortion, a rework of the original Japanese HM-2. This was my first guitar pedal - loved by many, and later to become a cult classic.
The controls were really bad to dial in, and many people like me thought their unit might have something wrong with it. I've fixed all the clunky issues with the pedal, and not messed with anything fundamental the core tone of the circuit. While the tone knobs have changed in function, their frequency curves match the original and can still be maxed for the Swedish chainsaw tone, or dialed back for a flattened response. Since there is increased output volume, that should be dialed to-taste, rather than maxed.
Germanium is used in the final compression stage. It's a sort of tonal comfort blanket for me, and it a crucial part of the tone. I'm guessing these these were substituted in the modern reissues, as germanium is not RoHS compliant.
Low noise resistors have been used, as well as low ESR ceramic power filter capacitors. These do not suffer the limited shelf life of electrolytic capacitors, and are distributed through the board in key locations, rather than one large electro filter cap serving the whole board. Low noise JFET input Texas Audio amplifier chips have been used. Japanese polyester audio capacitors are used.
N.B. this does not include the two toggle mod switches shown in demo videos of the first round build. Contact me for those options.
