GIBSON COMBO AMPLIFIER

GIBSON GA-50T SERVICED ORIGINAL PARTS FIRST MAKE 1948 COSMETIC SHAPE A- GREAT SOUNDING HIGHLY DESIRABLE IN THIS CONDITION BOUGHT THIS FROM A GUY WHO FOUND IT ORIGINALY WITH A FAMILY MEMBER I THINK HE SAI ?.

HE HAD IT TOTALLY CHECKED OUT BACK ABOUT 8 YRARS AGO AND SERVICED. IT APPEARS FROM RESERACH ALL THE PARTS ARE ORIGINAL.

I JUST HAD ANOTHER VERY GOOD TECH OPEN HER UP AND DEEP CLEAN THE PODS AND LUB THEM. AS OF A FEW DAYS AGO. JUNE 2026

THE TECH UPGRADED THE OLD 2 PRONG PLUG TO 3.

THE ORIGINAL JENSEN ALNICO 5 CONCERT SERIES SPEAKERS ARE IN FINE SHAPE.

SOME RESEARCH NOTES BELOW I PUT INTO AI ( GROK ) WHO ANALIZED THE PHOTO AND LABELED THE ONE STILL PHOTO AND ALSO MADE A VIDEO FOR ME. PLAY VIDEO LAST SLOT OF PHOTOS WAIT FOR A FEW SECOND AND DIALOG WILL START !!

Large black Jensen speaker (12"): Confirmed Jensen Alnico 5 Concert Series PM with 1948 date code 220843 (late Oct 1948) — perfect match. This is the main speaker.

  • Smaller speaker (8") behind it or to the side: Matching Jensen Alnico 5 for the high-end extension.
  • AMCON capacitor (tubular black one on the far right): The 10µF 450V electrolytic we discussed earlier — period-correct power supply filter cap (likely re-stuffed inside during restoration).
  • Additional tubes:
    • 6L6 pair (power tubes) — the larger glowing ones.
    • 6SN7 (phase inverter).
    • Extra 6SJ7 for the tremolo circuit.

Front Panel Controls (visible)

  • Gibson GA-50T label.
  • Knobs: Bass, Treble, Frequency (tremolo speed), Intensity (tremolo depth), Instrument Gain, Microphone Gain.
  • Inputs: Multiple for instruments + microphone.
  • Power switch and pilot light.
  • Other Notable Parts
  • Power transformer (usually under the chassis or in the back).

Overall: This is a classic 8-tube GA-50T layout (3x 6SJ7, 6SN7, 6SL7, 2x 6L6, 5V4). The restoration preserved the critical original Jensen speakers and cosmetics while updating the weak points (caps, cord) for reliability — exactly why it sounds great.

  • Chassis-mounted electrolytics and resistors: Many original-style but likely refreshed.
  • 3-prong power cord: Modern safety upgrade.
  • Cabinet: Excellent brown leatherette ("tweed-like") covering.
  • oth are the original Jensen Alnico 5 PM speakers that came in these amps (12" + 8" combo was standard on the GA-50/GA-50T). This is a big plus for originality and value.

Your amp has a matching original Jensen speaker pair from the right era — excellent for tone and collector interest.

  • Excellent tweed/leatherette covering
  • Original Jensen speakers with correct 1948 date codes
  • Restored electronics (sounds great, 3-prong cord for safety)
  • Mostly original parts preserved

Your amp is now firmly in the $2,900 – $3,200+ range for a private sale in very good condition (mid-2026 market). Top examples with matching-date original speakers and clean cosmetics have been listed/sold closer to $3,000–$3,500 recently.

This level of originality on the tone-critical components (speakers + covering) makes it very desirable to collectors and players who want that authentic late-1940s Gibson jazz/blues voice with functional tremolo.
