SSL XLogic Stereo Bus Compressor (UK-Made) – Excellent Condition

Up for sale is my SSL XLogic Stereo Bus Compressor, one of the most iconic mix-bus compressors ever made. This is the compressor responsible for the legendary SSL "glue" that has found its way onto countless records over the decades.

What continues to impress me about this unit is how effortlessly it brings a mix together while preserving the size, depth, and dimensionality of the recording. It provides cohesion and punch without collapsing the stereo image or making the mix feel smaller. Even when working hard, the XLogic maintains a sense of openness and depth that helps the mix feel finished without sounding over-processed.

Having spent time with both this unit and SSL's newer Bus+, I personally prefer the compression behavior and overall sonics of the original UK-made XLogic. While the Bus+ offers an impressive array of modern features and workflow options, I find that the XLogic delivers a more natural and musical compression character. It retains more of the depth, width, and scale of the original recording while still providing the punch, control, and glue that made SSL bus compression famous.

Whether this difference comes from design choices, component selection, or the fact that these earlier units were manufactured in the UK, I consistently find myself preferring the sound and feel of the original XLogic. For engineers who prioritize tone and musicality over additional feature sets, this compressor remains a benchmark.

Of course, compression is subjective, and I always encourage prospective buyers to do their own research. There are numerous comparison videos and audio examples available online that showcase the character of the original XLogic against "newer" designs (see the youtube link I provided, keep in mind that the 500-G series were also made in UK)

This unit has been used exclusively in a professional mixing environment and has been exceptionally well cared for throughout its life. It has lived in a smoke-free, climate-controlled, air-conditioned studio with ample ventilation and has never been transported between studios or subjected to road use. It has remained in the same rack location during my ownership.

Why I'm Selling: As much as I enjoy this compressor, I'm currently consolidating gear to help fund the purchase of a Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor. This sale is not motivated by any issues with the unit. The XLogic remains one of my favorite mix-bus compressors and would be staying in my rack if I weren't moving toward the Shadow Hills.
