This mid-1990s Fender Tone-Master head is a rare piece of boutique guitar history, hand-built, point-to-point wired during the golden era of the Fender Custom Amp Shop in Scottsdale, Arizona. Designed by legendary amp guru Bruce Zinky to compete with the heaviest boutique names of the 90s, this 100-watt, dual-channel all-tube powerhouse (Chassis Type CSR 3) carries the highly collectible, early-production serial number 0153.
The CSR-3 Tone-Master is a legendary piece of gear because it was Fender's flagship foray into premium boutique, high-gain touring amplifiers. It is famously known as Dave Grohl's main stage and studio amplifier during the early-to-mid era of the Foo Fighters. Other iconic acts like Jimmy Page, Aerosmith, and John Paul Jones used this exact configuration for massive live tone.
It comes with a Fender Tone Master Custom Shop 13-ply premium Baltic Birch 4x12 enclosure, manufactured at Fender's Lake Oswego plant and loaded with highly coveted, original 1990s English-made Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. Finished in iconic era-correct Blonde Tolex with Oxblood grille cloth, this rare, matching Scottsdale/Lake Oswego rig delivers everything from massive high-headroom Fender cleans to thick, high-gain boutique distortion, making it a prized crown jewel for both players and collectors alike.
The amp has two independent channels
Channel A (Clean Channel): Renowned for lush, high-headroom, classic Fender clean tones. It includes controls for Volume, Treble, Bass, and Mid, along with a FAT switch providing a +3dB gain boost.
Channel B (Overdrive/Crunch Channel): Delivers a heavy, high-gain, modern rock crunch. It includes controls for Gain, Treble, Bass, Mid, and Volume, as well as its own independent FAT switch to thicken up distortion.
- Custom Shop Build: 100% hand-wired, point-to-point circuitry crafted by a specialized premium build team.
- 100-Watt Power Section: Driven by four 5881/6L6WGC power tubes and massive, custom-wound Schumacher transformers.
- Two Independent Channels: Separate vintage clean (Channel A) and high-gain overdrive (Channel B) preamp circuits.
- Preamp Tube Array: Uses three 12AX7A dual-triodes to shape the EQ and gain stages.
- Dual Fat Switches: Individual front-panel toggle switches to boost low-mid punch on each channel.
- Independent Channel EQ: Dedicated Volume, Treble, Bass, and Middle controls for both A and B channels.
- Integrated Effects Loop: Line-level rear jacks for patching external delay, modulation, or reverb effects.
- Impedance Selector Switch: Rear switch toggles between 4, 8, or 16 ohms for flexible cabinet matching.
- Dual Speaker Jacks: Parallel 1/4-inch outputs to drive one or two speaker cabinets simultaneously.
- UK Celestion Drivers: Loaded with four original English-made 16-ohm Celestion G12 Vintage (Vintage 30) speakers.
- 240-Watt Cabinet Rating: Handles up to 240 watts of power wired for a total 16-ohm load.
Condition:
This vintage 1993/1994 Fender Tone-Master 100W Head & 4x12 Cab are in fair cosmetic condition but remain structurally sound, fully functional. The original Blonde Tolex exhibits very obvious, authentic road wear all over, including prominent scuffs, tears, and discoloration consistent with a genuine vintage rig. Additionally, the metal hardware, corners, etc. show noticeable signs of surface corrosion. These flaws are purely cosmetic, do not affect the performance of the amplifier, and give the stack a natural relic aesthetic… actually real rock n roll aesthetic, the best kind!
