1960's Kay Vanguard 100 solid bodyThe 1960s Kay Vanguard 100 (K100) is a classic, American-made solid-body electric guitar produced in Chicago between 1961 and 1966. Originally built by the Kay Musical Instrument Company as an entry-level instrument to compete with cheap Japanese imports, it has since earned a cult following for its quirky retro charm and unique raw tone.

- Body Design: Offset double-cut slab body, usually crafted from hardwood or poplar.
- Electronics: Equipped with a single, highly-regarded "pancake" or "pancake-style" pickup built directly into the pickguard, controlled by one volume and one tone knob.
- Neck: Chunky maple neck with a bolt-on construction and a 25 3/4" scale length.
- Finishes: Most commonly found in a two-tone Sunburst or a bright Red finish, though rare Daphne Blue versions exist.
