Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass 2017 – Fiesta Red
Fender Jazz Basses made in Mexico (MIM) are highly praised for offering professional-grade playability and classic Fender tone at a fraction of the cost of USA-made models. Manufactured at Fender's Ensenada factory, they have served as the brand's primary workhorse instruments since production began in 1990.
This bass has seen little use. I’m a guitar player, not a bass player; it is in like-new condition. The factory plastic is still remains on the pickguard and tuners. This bass was set up professionally (Lay’s Guitar Repair, Akron Ohio). The neck is straight, & comfortable, and the frets have been polished and virtually show no wear.
In my opinion, the looks of this bass are stunning; I love the Fiesta Red finish and the block inlays, which is a very rare combination. It’s particularly difficult to find one of these with block inlay.
Generally speaking, the Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Four-String Bass guitar is an active/passive electronics bass guitar. An active electronics bass guitar really opens up a whole selection of tonal possibilities that you can create with your instrument. The model was designed with a vintage vibe while providing modern electronics.
The pickups are Dual-Coil Ceramic Noiseless Jazz Bass with Nickel-Plated Pole Pieces in for the neck and the bridge. The broad range of controls include a Master Volume knob, Dynamic Select knob, which allows any variation of use of the neck & bridge pickups controls, a three-band active control EQ knob for with boost &cut for treble and bass, as well as a 2nd Dual active control three-band active EQ knob for Mids boost & cut.
The body is sprayed with a gloss Urethane, the classic Fender jazz bass body shape, with the body being comprised of alder; there is 2 chunks chipped out of the finish as depicted in the photos. One of my friends made a poor attempt to start “relicing” the finish, but I put a quick stop to it when I realized it was not going well. Big mistake on my part.
The neck is a modern ‘C’ shape neck with a beautiful deep rosewood fingerboard and block inlays; thisis not a pao ferro fingerboards for which I’m not a fan. Not only are they typically cheap, pale and “anemic-looking,” but the notes don’t seem to resonate off the fingerboard as crisply and brightly as with real rosewood or ebony boards; I noticed a tonal difference immediately
Overall, the Deluxe Active Jazz Bass offers classic styling with modern features that make it a superior performer; ideal for stage and studio alike. Its stylish combination of time-honored look, special modern active electronics that creates a sophisticated and maximum tonally versatile Jazz Bass musical experience from smooth jazz to hard-hiting metal.
