Up for sale is a vintage SML Standard Model Tenor Saxophone.
Serial number 17751 dates this SML Standard tenor saxophone to approximately 1962. Made in France, it represents the quality workmanship and distinctive sound for which vintage SML saxophones are well known.
I am a beginner and recently purchased this beautiful horn to learn on, but quickly realized it leaks in the lower register (doubles notes below low G) and needs new pads. I do not have the time or local resources to invest in a full repad/overhaul, so I’ve decided to part with it.
Cosmetic & Mechanical Condition:
- Finish: Visually, the horn is stunning and looks incredibly clean, almost like new ("like a baby"). It has some minor surface scratches and a small, typical ding on the neck (see photos). As a beginner, I cannot verify if this lacquer is 100% original factory or a past relacquer, so please examine the high-resolution photos closely and judge for yourself. It is being sold based on what you see in the pictures.
- Pads/Playability: It needs a pad job. It does not play cleanly in the bottom range. Sold strictly as a project horn needing service.
- Body: The body tube appears straight and the overall mechanical action feels smooth.
Included Bonuses:
- Vintage SML Paris Mouthpiece: Included as a free bonus! It is in very good condition and complements the horn perfectly.
- Original SML Hard Case: The original vintage case is included and is in remarkably good shape for its age.
Terms of Sale:
Because I am a beginner selling a vintage instrument that needs repair, this outfit is sold STRICTLY AS-IS / AS-DESCRIBED with no returns. Please ask any questions or request specific photos before buying. Ships fully insured via Reverb Safe Shipping.
