This is a 1980s Neumann U87A i. SN 50209. These were released in mid 1980s and are part of the second generation of U87s. Neumann still used several parts and manufacturing processes of the first generation. These mics have a very balanced tone. They are slightly brighter and louder than the Gen1, but very pleasant, with a more gentle tone in comparison to the latest U87Ai. Note that these were the last U87s made by the original Neumann ownership. In 1991 the company was acquired by Sennheiser, which eventually introduced a few changes to the U87Ai circuit, making the microphone even brighter and louder, which didn’t quite please everyone.
This particular U87A i is in exceptional shape inside. Circuit and capsule are perfect. All original. Everything works well and the mic sounds great. The body is in very great shape too, free of damage.
The mic comes along with a original Neumann EA 87 shock mount, a waterproof case, and a protective pouch.
