The Pono BN-30D (also known as the Baritone Nui) is a hybrid, nylon-string, 4-string instrument. While its 23-inch scale length matches that of standard tenor guitars, it is specifically braced for nylon strings and typically tuned to Chicago tuning (D-G-B-E), bridging the gap between a large baritone ukulele and a classical guitar. Because the instrument is built with a larger body and longer scale, it produces guitar-like sustain, rich harmonic overtones, and excellent bass response. The nylon string build gives it a deep, mellow warmth akin to a parlor classical guitar, but with the distinct voicing of a tenor guitar.
