A serious tool for one of the best tricks in tube tone: running two separate tube amp heads into a single cabinet and switching between them on the fly. Set one head for your rhythm voice and a second, completely different amp for your solo voice, then change between them with a footswitch. It is incredible, and it opens up tonal territory you simply cannot get from one amp and a boost.

The reason this exists, and the reason you cannot just rig this up with a regular A/B box, is safety. A tube amp must always see a speaker load or it can destroy itself. The Headbone VT handles that with digitally controlled relays, photocells, and internal load resistors that guarantee each amp’s output stage always sees a proper load through the switch, including a SafeMode that defaults to a safe state even with power disconnected. Pure Class A electronics, your choice of a direct or buffered input, and a brief silent gap during the switch so the two heads are never connected to the speaker at once. This is the VT model, built specifically for two valve/tube heads.

It also has Radial’s Slingshot remote switching, which is how I used it: a standard footswitch jack lets you trigger the amp change from a pedalboard switcher, so you can fold full amp switching into your existing rig and trigger it alongside everything else. A couple of honest notes on operation. By design, the onboard footswitch is disabled the moment you connect an external footswitch, that is intentional, not a fault. And while it looks like it could be confusing, every input and output is clearly labeled right on the chassis, so setup is much more straightforward than it appears.
