The 1980 Gibson "The Paul" Deluxe (part of the Firebrand series) is a higher-end, "working man's" variation of the original walnut "The Paul" model, characterized by its solid mahogany body and ebony fretboard.

- Body & Neck: Unlike the standard walnut version, the Deluxe features a solid mahogany body and a three-piece mahogany neck and has a 60s-style slim neck profile.
- Fretboard: A distinctive ebony fretboard with 22 frets and dot inlays.
- Headstock: Features a unique branded Gibson logo (literally burned into the wood) rather than a silk-screened or inlaid logo.
- Pickups: Covered original Gibson "T-top" humbucker (stamp dated 1980) in the neck position and a Seymour Duncan APH1 at the bridge giving it clear, distinct vintage LP tone.
- Hardware: Chrome-plated hardware with Grover Rotomatic tuners
