This vintage 4/4 violin is a survivor! It is believed to be a 1850-1855 German HOPF. The word HOPF is embossed in the back below the button. Caspar Hopf was a famous German violin maker. His descendants carried on the tradition of building quality violins into the 1800s. Also a label inside says restored in 1972 in Ohio.
It has a sound post patch on the backplate that I did not do but is sound. It is pegged on button at top of back plate and pegged on back plate to back block. It has a fret board spacer on the neck. Refer to the photos for these repairs. All the repairs are solid and it is now in good playing condition. I set it up with synthetic core strings which give it a good tone. This violin comes foam packed in a student quality case with bow, rosin and cleaning cloth. It has been stored in a smoke-free and pet-free environment. If you would like to hear it played, message me your cell number and I'll text a short video.
