This is an early 70s Fender Musicmaster Bass. It was converted to a head in my shop, and Hotrodded with lots of new parts while retaining the vintage charm. Original tolex was used to keep the vintage look. The grill cloth is new but I aged it to look the part. Please examine all pictures carefully, especially the gut shots! I do meticulous work. All work done made the amp more reliable, more versatile, more safe, and IMO didn't detract from the vintage charm of these amplifiers.

All original transformers

High voltage power supply moved off the board and away from signal wires to reduce noise. Top quality Nichicon filter caps and new diodes.

Split the grounding scheme so the power amp and pre amp have better separation for reduced noise

All electrolytic caps replaced as standard maintenance.

A few dropping resistors replaced due to drift.

.01 coupling cap replaced with a sozo .02 because it just makes more sense for a balanced tone.

Heater wiring converted to a balanced, twisted pair with a virtual center tap for reduced noise.

Volume/tone setup converted to a Tweed-spec for more usable sweep. Volume pot replaced with 1meg. Tone pot is the original 1meg.

Input converted to traditional fender black panel specs which works great for guitar and bass. Shielded wire used to and from v1 for reduced noise.

Fuse added for safety.

New 3 prong grounded power cable.

The plastic "spaghetti" wiring was replaced with cloth covered since it was starting to break down into the green "ooze" that happens with 70s Fender wire.

Speaker output Jack added to the rear- this amp has an 8ohm output

The eyelet boards were removed and cleaned of all the built up gunk and old rotten flux. I'd say this amp is ready for another 40 years of service!

Sounds great with a very low noise floor compared to other examples of these that have come through my shop. These definitely function better as guitar amps than bass amps... Sounds like a Fender champ on steroids.

All original components that were replaced will be included with the amp.

About me:

I've been building/servicing guitar amps for over a decade as a side gig while working as a systems engineer full time. I don't normally offer stuff to the public and stick with my little group of local customers, but this project was too cool and had to be done!
