A rare cutaway model with a 14-fret joint from the renowned British luthier, David Whiteman, has arrived!
Born in the UK in 1965, David Whiteman established his workshop near the coast of Shoreham-by-Sea in southern England. He studied at the prestigious London College of Furniture, a renowned school for instrument making, where he later taught as a professor.
He is an experienced specialist who handles not only modern classical guitars but also the restoration and copy production of 19th-century guitars such as Lacôte and Stauffer, Torres, Hauser, and even 17th-century Baroque guitars. He has now retired from university teaching and focuses exclusively on guitar making and the restoration of early instruments.
This 2013 model is exceptionally rare and precious.
It features a cutaway specification with a 14-fret joint and is equipped with 20 frets. The narrower nut width and 14-fret joint offer a unique playability that may depend on personal preference, but it is highly recommended for players who frequently use high positions, or those exploring various genres beyond classical music, such as jazz.
There are minor playing scratches, but the instrument remains in beautiful overall condition.
The bracing system is also unique, featuring a lattice bracing pattern near the center of the soundboard. Unlike the diagonal bars often used by Australian luthiers, this model uses vertical bars to form the lattice. The left and right sides of the top board feature standard fan bracing, suggesting an experimental approach to its construction.
It delivers a crisp, clear sound with excellent volume and a deep, resonant presence.
