*update - I gave the bass a deep polish/hand buff and it’s looking better than ever - I am having second thoughts about selling it, it’s really a great bass. Try to make a move on it soon if you want it because I might pull it.

Custom 1978 Musicmaster short scale bass (30” scale)

Rewired with Curtis Novak H22 gold foil bass pickup, Sprague Vitamin Q cap, Bourns 250k pots, Pure Tone jack, and vintage cloth wire. (Sounds fat with plenty of beef to the tone.)

Rotosound Monel flats.

Hipshot bridge installed and fully intonated.

Schaller tuners.

Upper frets leveled, crowned, and polished.

All frets polished.

This bass has been thoughtfully upgraded with the goal of creating an exceptional player’s instrument while preserving its vintage character.

The neck is great, the action is tight, and it plays like room-temperature butter.

The Curtis Novak H22 is a substantial improvement over the stock Musicmaster pickup, delivering a fuller, richer voice with far more authority.

The Hipshot bridge provides excellent intonation and solid string spacing, while the Schaller tuners turn smoothly and hold tune exceptionally well.

If you’re looking for a completely original collector’s piece, this probably isn’t the bass for you. If you’re looking for vintage character with carefully chosen quality-of-life upgrades that plays beautifully and is ready for years of dependable use, it just might be.
