It is the fantasy of a Tweed-family amp that never was. The circuit has volume compression while maintaining distortion dynamics. Drive level can be controlled by the volume knob on your guitar. Crank the controls, and you’ll be rewarded with a harmonic edge-of-fuzz with warm cleanup. All distortion is generated in the 3 transistor amplification stages without the use of any diodes or other explicit clipping section.
