(Stock No.: 939) Here is a very rare Gibson SG Special, made in the USA in 1983, featuring incredible patina, Tim Shaw PAT Humbuckers, loads of mojo, an ebony fretboard, and much more... It comes in a Gen 3 Gibson "Chainsaw" case and is in used condition... There are a few dings and dents, as well as normal signs of play, yet there are no deep grooves or notches in the original, very low-profile frets—or in the ebony fretboard itself! This guitar is a fantastic player's instrument, weighing in at "only" 3.170 kg. This 1983 Gibson SG Special, with this specific configuration, is an extremely rare and sought-after transitional model from the legendary Norlin era. Gibson experimented heavily with components and specifications during this period, which is why this model now enjoys true collector status. Key features at a glance: Ebony Fretboard: Absolutely unusual for an SG Special. Tim Shaw Humbuckers: Developed by sound engineer Tim Shaw, these pickups (stamped) are considered Gibson's first successful attempt to faithfully recreate the legendary PAFs of the late 1950s. They deliver that highly sought-after vintage tone—warm yet transparent. Wraparound Bridge (One-piece tailpiece): Unlike the standard two-piece Tune-O-Matic setup, this model features a direct wraparound tailpiece (often manufactured by Schaller in Germany). This ensures direct vibration transfer and noticeably long sustain. The "3-knob" layout: A hallmark of SG Special models from 1983 to 1988 is the simplified electronics featuring just three controls (two volume pots and one shared tone pot). Additionally, this variant comes without a factory-installed pickguard. Slim '60s profile that is extremely fast and effortless to play. Finish: Originally Classic White, now showing extensive fine checking/cracking. Weight: 2.795 kg. We have given the guitar a full setup with new Ernie Ball 09-46 strings; the fretboard was cleaned and oiled, and the intonation and action were optimally adjusted. Includes original Gibson "Chainsaw" case (Gen 3) in used condition—note that one latch and the Gibson logo on the lid are missing. Take a look around our store: Price not quite right?
