Gordon Smith Gatsby Antiquity (1 of 1) 6.5lbs

I met the guys from Gordon Smith while on tour in the UK last summer. I played a bunch of their guitars, which were all wonderful, but this one completely won me over. The Gatsby is an offset body design that they do in several configurations. They called this one Gatsby Antiquity and essentially a prototype that they weren’t sure if they’d ever make another. Even if I had not fallen for this one it just felt like so much love and thought went into this guitar. It’s got a white finish that is aged beautifully and appears yellowish and has a lot of deep finish checking. The relic work looks and feels so wonderfully done and there are no goofy scrapes or unrealistic wear pattern marks. It has such beautifully designed curves and the guitar is only 6.5 pounds! Gordon Smith hand-builds all their guitars in the UK. All of their guitars are built with brass nuts.

The pickups are handwound in house. These are a PAF style and read 6.7k in the neck, and 8.7k in the bridge. They are 4 conductor wire and the pots are push/pull, and are my only complaint about the guitar. Pulling the volume knob splits the neck, pulling the tone knob splits the bridge. Shortly after I got the guitar the shaft for the tone pot completely pulled out of the guitar. I pushed it back in and it works just fine as a normal pot, but the push/pull is broken. I don’t care for any split coil humbucker sounds and had planned to replace both pots with 500k CTS but I never got around to it.
