SPALTED MAPLE!
Fender made this guitar once, didn’t make many of them, and then quietly moved on. That’s a shame, because the Special Edition Custom Telecaster HH Spalted Maple is one of the most visually arresting production guitars they ever released — and the tone backs it up.
The top on this instrument is the main event. Heavily figured spalted maple, carved and finished in gloss, with bold black streaking lines cutting through warm, shimmering grain — no two of these look alike, and this one is a particularly striking example. It photographs like a piece of functional art and plays nothing like the slab-body working-class Telecaster it superficially resembles.
Under the top is a slim mahogany body with a set mahogany neck — a combination that pushes the tone warmly away from the typical Tele snap toward something rounder, darker, and more resonant. The Seymour Duncan pairing does the rest: a Pearly Gates Plus in the bridge for that distinctive bloom and midrange snarl, and a ‘59 in the neck for smooth, open PAF warmth. Pull the tone knob and both pickups split to single-coil — suddenly you’re back in Telecaster territory with a bit more body. Three very different guitars in one instrument.
Cream binding on both body and neck, rosewood fingerboard with abalone dot inlays, and a string-through hardtail bridge complete the picture. This guitar was previously owned and played by a guitarist in a local rock band — it has been played, cared for, and recorded with. It is not a closet queen, but it is in honest shape for a working musician’s instrument.
Locking strap buttons appear to be aftermarket. Comes with a locking strap and a new SKB hardshell case.
CONDITION: Very Good+
Through-finish bump on the lower bout face near the strap button — most significant flaw; clearly visible in close-up photo. Through-finish bump on the back corner near the output jack. Minor finish scratch on the side of the headstock. Minor finish scratch on the body side near the output jack. Minor ding at the top of the headstock. Electronics, frets, neck, and hardware are all fully functional. No cracks, no repairs to the wood or neck joint.
WHO WE ARE
Revival Music Hall is a nonprofit live music venue housed in a converted 1916 church in Humboldt, Kansas. We book working musicians across rock, country, blues, folk, and punk — and we take the instruments that support that work seriously. This guitar was previously in the hands of a working local musician before coming to us, and we’re passing it along honestly.
We’re new to selling on Reverb — no completed transactions yet — but we’re not new to gear. We’ve been on the receiving end of enough online instrument purchases to know exactly what makes the experience good or bad: accurate descriptions, honest photos, fast and careful packing, and straightforward communication. That’s what you’ll get here.
If you have questions about condition, provenance, or anything else, ask. We’d rather over-answer than leave you guessing.
