This is a clean 1953 Gibson J-50.
These are among the very best sounding , slope shoulder Dreadnoughts made by Gibson. Far better sounding than the thin voice of the 1960s adjustable bridge models.
This particular example is nice and clean. Has some repired cracks but very solid and stable.
The finish is original and the neck is perfect. Clean frets and correct neck angle and saddle height.
Its voice is dynamic with perfect balance, overtone harmonics and volume. One of the factors in their great sound is the the early 50s had scalloped braces like a pre-war martin D-18.
It is a guitar that can be played in a bluegrass or country band or fingerpicked as a singer songwriter guitar.
It performs any task with relative ease. It is one of the "grail" guitars and is easily one of the best sounding Gibson Flattops I have heard.
It has sweet warm sound with lots of harmonics and excellent tonal balance.
Action is medium with plenty of room for adjustment on the saddle.
comes with a modern case.
The bridge was replaced with a more modern, short saddle style and the bridgeplate was also replaced as both were cracked. That improved the sound noticeably. The tuning gears were sticky and were replaced with vintage looking Gotoh made -Kluson replicas with a better turn ratio.
An installed K&K pickup is the cherry on the cake, so its ready to plug and play.
Shipping is approximately $300 -insured for full amount for fed ex 2 day for most eastern regions possibly more for west coast.
