This is ---The Actual Amplifier--- that was traced and reproduced as the (correct!) schematic used throughout the world on SilvertoneWorld.net, RadioMuseum.org, and Harmony Central. (Look it up, Download it, and see "Rickshaw Records" as the author.)
If you are looking for that thick, gritty, unmistakable garage-rock breakup, this is the real deal.
Famous in the studios of rock royalty like Jack White, Dan Auerbach, and Beck.
Even the crappy reverb still works. It’s terrible, but it performs(?) as designed.
The Sound:
Powered by a pair of 30W 6L6GC output tubes, it delivers ~40 Watts of unique, warm cleans that effortlessly transition into a glorious, trashy, compressed overdrive when cranked. The Tremolo is world-famous. It is a loud, stage-ready performer, and a recording studio standard.
• Model: 1484 Twin Twelve (Piggyback Head + Cabinet)
• Speakers: 2x 1968 Jensen C12Q*
• Tubes: Pair of 6L6's and 5 preamp tubes for 2 channels, tremolo and reverb
• Effects: One of the best-sounding Tremolo circuits ever designed. Crappy reverb. Original footswitch included.
• Cosmetics: Good condition for its age. Original gray-speckled "exquisite" vinyl covering has battle scars and edge wear.
• Functional Notes: Meticulously traced circuit. Serviced and stored in a studio and indoor closets over the past 10 years.
• Protective leatherette amp cover from AmplifierCovers.com
The amplifier head neatly slides away and stores completely inside the bottom of the speaker cabinet for easy transport.
* Interestingly, this amp was possibly blown-up and serviced in 1968. The evidence is:
The power transformer is a Drake 784-139 that debuted in 1967, and was primarily used in JMP 50W Marshall "Plexi" amps of that era. (Somewhere I have a modern replacement power transformer that was designed for this Silvertone. I just never installed it.)
The cabinet has Jensen CQ12 Bell-Back speakers from 1968.
Stamped 220804 C12Q C7368-3, the "220804" stamp code breaks-down as:
• 220 ("220" is Jensen's speaker code)
• 8 ("1968")
• 04 ("4th Week")
• = January of 1968. See the stamps in the photos.
