1971 Gibson SG Special – Fresh Refret – Vintage Player

Up for sale is a 1971 Gibson SG Special in its original finish.

This is a genuine vintage player's guitar with all the character you'd hope to find in a 50+ year old SG. It has plenty of honest wear, finish checking, small dings, and the kind of natural patina that only comes from decades of actual use. It looks vintage without looking neglected, and still presents extremely well.

The guitar retains its original body, neck, pots, wiring harness, switch, output jack, bridge, and original neck pickup.

Updates include:

- Period-correct Grover tuners

- Electric City P-90 hand-wound bridge pickup

- Replacement pickguard

- Replacement strap buttons

- Recent refret and setup

The refret was completed recently and transformed the guitar. It plays cleanly up and down the neck with comfortable action and none of the fret wear issues commonly found on SGs of this era.

Tonally, it delivers exactly what you'd expect from an old SG Special. The original neck pickup is warm, articulate, and full of character, while the Electric City bridge P-90 adds bite, clarity, and plenty of output. Together they make for an exceptionally versatile and inspiring vintage instrument.

The original Gibson vibrato assembly is included in the case. A previous owner converted the guitar to a wraparound bridge setup, which is how it is currently configured. The vibrato unit is included but not currently installed.

What I like most about this guitar is that it feels like a real vintage instrument. It has the scars, finish checking, and natural aging that collectors and players look for, but it hasn't been over-restored or polished into something it never was. It simply looks, feels, and sounds like an old Gibson should.

If you're looking for a museum piece, this probably isn't it. If you're looking for a lightweight, resonant early-'70s SG Special with great playability and decades of character, it's a good one!
