Introduced in 1965 during the height of the folk-rock boom, the Villager 12-String represents one of Fender’s most unique and charismatic chapters. Designed to appeal to electric players looking to double on acoustic, this instrument defied traditional acoustic construction by utilizing a bolt-on neck, an internal aluminum support rod, and a striking "hockey stick" headstock straight out of the California surf scene.
The Villager features a Spruce top with Mahogany back and sides, delivering a bright, jangling, and chime-heavy 12-string chorus that perfectly encapsulates the sound of the mid-60s. Because it employs an internal metal heavy-duty brace stretching from the neck block to the tail block, the guitar is incredibly stable, preventing the top-warping issues that plague many vintage 12-strings from this era.
For electric guitarists, the real draw is the neck. Built with a familiar slim Maple neck, a curved Rosewood fingerboard, and a standard Fender neck joint, it feels remarkably like playing a mid-60s Stratocaster or Jazzmaster. This makes navigating the wider 12-string nut width an effortless experience.
This first year 1965 example is a wonderful piece of Fender history and remains in honest vintage condition. It shows typical lacquer checking, light scratches, small dings and a repaired top crack, that tell the story of its 60-year life. The original tuners hold pitch well, and the bridge is secure.
This guitar has been given a full service by our luthiers at the Vintage Instrument Workshop, and includes a 2 year warranty.
