Up for grabs, sadly, is my stunning Made in Japan 2017 Gretsch Duo Jet, GT128T-53, the ’53 Vintage Select model.
This one in particular is one of the most exquisitely crafted instruments I’ve played, the reasons I’m moving it are the reasons almost all of us know-current musical needs, funding of other gear, general life, etc.
This instrument has been upgraded. Gone are the T-Armonds, in their place the Righteous Sound Spatarmonds. They’re vastly superior and more loyal to vintage tones. Livelier, brighter, more harmonically interesting, but still with those upfront mids and peerless low-end thump (of note, they are wax potted). In fact, after I installed them, my wife, from the OTHER ROOM, immediately said “those sound way better!” In fact, I have a video on Youtube comparing them to the Ellisonics.
The bridge is a discontinued Embie Melita style bridge which improved upon the original design with saddle material and lower profile parts for greater comfort to rest your hands on. I’ve also installed a string-through bar for the Bigsby. Pots are 500k, with the master at 1M with the requisite treble bleed. The stock cap failed and has been replaced with an Orange Drop. The original aluminum bar bridge and rosewood base is included, as pictured.
Frets are level, neck is straight. There are a number of shallow dings as pictured; I’ve gigged with this guitar plenty.
Also, I can include the Fralin Alnico Rod Noiseless Dynasonics I tried for a minute, which also sound killer. A little more scooped, a little ruder in the low end, but it still sounds like a Duo Jet. I’ll add them for $200 if you like (the set sells for $350 and good luck finding them used.)
Hardshell case is included as pictured, a couple of scrapes in the tolex.
I do really love this thing, but I’m not a rich man. And I still might change my mind on letting this go.
This listing is cross posted in almost every major gear hub possible, including ones that don’t carry sales tax or seller fees (though with less buyer/seller protection), like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and The Gear Page. So if you want to nab it, jump on it.
*variances in climate my result certain setup changes as wood expands and contracts with changes in humidity.
