Moths got to the original grill cloth on this amp. I put new black grill cloth and then put the original on top of that so it still retains its orginal look. Replaced caps (including the originals), Installed grounded power, removed death cap. Tremelo required a new cap and preamp tube, otherewise the amp is original.

From Google AI:

The Kalamazoo Model Two is a highly-regarded mid-1960s 5-watt Class A tube amplifier. Known for its incredible crunch and harmonic complexity at low volumes, it is a favorite for practice, recording, and blues harmonica. Used models typically sell for between $400 and $600 depending on their condition. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]Key Specs & Features

  • Power: 4 to 5 watts
  • Tubes: Typically uses a 6X4 rectifier, an EL84 (or 6V6 in some variations) power tube, and two 12AX7s in the preamp
  • Speaker: Originally came with a 10-inch speaker
  • Effects: Built-in oscillating tremolo [1, 2, 3]

Pros

  • Killer Vintage Tone: When pushed, it provides a warm, gritty overdrive perfect for blues and garage rock.
  • Harmonica Favorite: Highly sought after by harp players for its "old school" honk and ability to handle dirt without muddying up.
  • Great Bang for the Buck: Compared to its Fender and Gibson contemporaries, it offers exceptional vintage tone at an accessible price. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Cons

  • Cabinet Quality: The original cabinets are often made of lighter, cheaper wood that doesn't age well, meaning many used models show significant wear. [1]
  • Electronics: Like most vintage gear, original components (like the "death cap" and old two-prong power cables) require standard maintenance and updating for safety. [1, 2, 3]

Owner & Collector ConsensusBecause of its simple circuit, the Model Two is heavily praised by tinkerers. Many players choose to replace the original speaker with something like a Jensen or a Reverend All Tone to improve low-end response and warmth. It can also be remarkably loud when run through a larger external speaker cabinet. [1, 2, 3]
