1962/63 Fender Jazz Bass Body – Candy Apple Red Refin Survivor

Offered here is an original 1962/63 Fender Jazz Bass body with a fascinating finish history. At some point in its life the body was refinished over the original finish, but a substantial amount of the original Candy Apple Red remains visible throughout. As shown in the photos, the classic Desert Sand undercoat can also be seen beneath the Candy Apple Red in numerous areas, providing a great look at Fender’s period-correct finishing process.

I acquired this body as part of a project with a later aftermarket neck already installed. Unfortunately, the original neck was long gone by the time it came into my possession and is not included. The body is being offered on its own as shown with original neck plate and screws included

I have carefully removed as much of the later white topcoat and gray primer as possible without disturbing the remaining original finish. The result is a body that beautifully showcases layers of its history, with surviving original Candy Apple Red, exposed Desert Sand undercoat, remnants of the later refinish, and honest wear accumulated over more than sixty years.

The body retains its original contours and routing, including the router pin dowel locations used during production. For clarity, the orange masking tape markers visible in the photos indicate the router pin dowels. The neck pocket, pickup cavities, and control cavity all show compelling evidence of the original finish layers and make this an especially interesting piece for collectors, restorers, and vintage Fender enthusiasts.
