1964 Fender Duo-Sonic in its original red finish, complete with its original hardshell case. A wonderfully preserved example of Fender’s student-model classic from the pre-CBS era, this guitar retains all of its original electronics, hardware, finish, and plastics.
The neck is dated December 1964, while the original Stackpole pots date to the 40th week of 1964, perfectly aligning with the instrument’s production timeline. The original pickups, wiring, and solder joints remain untouched. The Brazilian rosewood fingerboard is beautiful, and the original frets remain in excellent condition with plenty of life left, allowing the guitar to play effortlessly up and down the neck.
The original red finish presents very well overall with honest wear accumulated over the past six decades. There are two small areas that received finish touch-up in the past, both of which are shown clearly in the photos. The body also exhibits several areas of finish discoloration and wear consistent with vintage strap burn from prolonged contact with a guitar strap. These areas are cosmetic only and contribute to the guitar’s authentic vintage character. Aside from these localized touch-ups and finish wear, the instrument remains remarkably original and retains the qualities collectors seek in a genuine pre-CBS Fender.
The Duo-Sonic delivers the articulate, punchy, and surprisingly versatile tone that has made these models increasingly desirable among players and collectors alike. Lightweight, comfortable, and exceptionally fun to play, this is a fantastic opportunity to acquire a highly original example from one of Fender’s most sought-after periods.
