The Bach Stradivarius LR180S43 is a professional-level Bb trumpet. Its highly specific design—pairing a bright, free-blowing #43 bell with a reverse leadpipe—makes it an industry-standard choice for commercial musicians, jazz lead players, and soloists who need power, agility, and a quick response.
- Bell (#43): This is a one-piece, hand-hammered, standard-weight yellow brass bell. The #43 taper has a faster flare than the traditional #37, producing a brighter, broader sound with tremendous projection.
- Leadpipe (#25LR): The "LR" signifies a reversed leadpipe construction. Instead of the leadpipe fitting inside the tuning slide, the tuning slide fits inside the leadpipe. This removes a step, providing less breath resistance and a much more open, free-blowing feel.
- Bore Size (ML): Features a 0.459" Medium-Large bore, which is the gold standard for providing a solid tonal core without sacrificing agility, giving players a more open feel with slightly more control and a vivid response, making it an instrument well suited for all types of music.
- Valves: Equipped with durable Monel pistons for quick, smooth, and reliable action.
- Finish: The "S" in the model number denotes a bright silver-plate finish, which adds a controlled, sparkling brilliance to the overall tone.
Playing Characteristics
- Sound: Known for producing the brightest tone in the standard Stradivarius line. It boasts plenty of upper-register sizzle, crisp articulation, and great clarity.
- Feel: The reverse leadpipe design paired with a lightweight body makes the horn incredibly efficient. It takes less effort to start notes and is much easier to project over an ensemble.
- Versatility: While it excels in big band lead trumpet or commercial gigs, it adapts well to classical and solo playing. Using a deeper, larger cup mouthpiece (like a Bach 1C or 3C) can easily help darken its inherent brightness.
