Body and neck in great shape, bridge is solid, fretboard good. Frets need some cleaning. New nut would be advised, I did not have one that fit. There are some scratches and belt rash. Plays good action is nice the wood has seasoned over the least 55+ years.
The Suzuki No. 9 Acoustic Guitar (often listed as Model #9) is a highly distinct, vintage "Dynamic" parlor-style guitar manufactured in Japan during the 1960s and early 1970s. Produced by the legendary Suzuki Violin Company in Nagoya, Japan, it occupies a unique space in guitar history because it was intentionally engineered as a hybrid crossover instrument capable of handling both nylon and lightweight steel strings safely. If you are looking at a Suzuki No. 9 with a standard round sound hole, the key specifications, build traits, and marketplace details outline what makes this vintage instrument unique:🛠️ Key Design & Build SpecificationsThe "Dynamic" Hybrid Build: Unlike a true classical guitar, which will warp or collapse under the tension of steel strings, the Suzuki No. 9 features a sturdier internal bracing pattern and a steel-reinforced neck. This allows players to swap between traditional nylon strings and light-gauge steel or "silk and steel" acoustic strings depending on the desired tone.Body & Tonewoods: Built primarily in a compact parlor or "000" style frame, making it lightweight and comfortable to hold. It features a spruce top paired with maple back and sides, giving it a surprisingly bright, deep, and projecting voice for its small body size.Neck Profile: Features a narrower neck width at the nut (around 40mm or 1.5 inches) compared to the very wide, flat necks found on traditional classical guitars. This makes it much easier for players with smaller hands to wrap around the fretboard.Zero Fret: Many versions of this model feature a "zero fret"—a fret bar placed right next to the nut. This rare configuration ensures uniform string action and consistent open-string tone.Aesthetics: It is commonly adorned with a beautiful abalone mother-of-pearl rosette ring around the round sound hole, a chunky profile neck, an adjustable bridge saddle, and classic Japanese "crazing" or checking in the aged finish.
